Why do we lift our hands? We lift our hands to bless and praise the Lord. Psalm 134:2 “Lift up your hands…” Additional Scriptures: 1 Timothy 2:8, Psalm 63:4; 141:2; Lamentations 3:41; Exodus 17:8-13; 1 Kings 8:22; 2 Chronicles 6:13.

Why do we kneel sometimes when we pray?

Psalm 95:6 “…bow down; Let us kneel…” Additional Scriptures: 2 Chronicles 6:13, Luke 22:41, Acts 9:40, 20:36

Why do we applaud?

Psalm 47:1 “Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! …with the voice of triumph!”  Additional Scriptures: Psalm 98:8, Isaiah 55:12, 2 Kings 11:12

Why do we shout?

Psalm 35:27 “Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause…”  Additional Scriptures: Psalm 47:1, 27:6, 32:11, 98:4, 132:9, 2 Samuel 6:15, Joshua 6:10, 16, 20.

Why do we dance?

We dance to express our joy for our king, Jesus. Psalms 149:3 “…praise His name with the dance…”  Psalm 150:4 “…praise him with tambourine and dancing…”

Why do we prophesy?

To strengthen, encourage and comfort the church. – 1 Corinthians 14:3-4, 14:31; 2 Kings 3:15-19, Joel 2:28.

Why do we speak in tongues and interpret?

To interpret the message from God in an unknown language into the known language of the local congregation. – 1 Corinthians 12:7, 10; 14:5

Why are musical instruments a part of the worship?

To make a joyful noise unto the Lord. – Psalm 149:3; Psalm 150:3-5.

Why do we sing “prophetic” and “new songs”?

To share a musical message from God for the purpose of building up the church.  Revelation 5:9-11; Colossians 3:16.
